BOTOX®
What you need to know

  Is BOTOX® safe?

Yes! With a 20 year track record and numerous medical uses BOTOX® is amongst the safest and most researched medications in the world. BOTOX® gained use cosmetically when it was discovered that tiny amounts injected superficially, with precision, would temporary relax the overly expressive facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

Be sure a physician is involved!

This is a drug and by law it must be administered under the licensed supervision of a physician specifically trained in the use of cosmetic BOTOX®. A physician may delegate the act of injecting to a nurse injector but the physician must still be involved in your initial assessment.

Beware if a clinic that sells by the area

BOTOX® is sold by the unit. Every individual has a unique muscle structure (which is what creates wrinkles) and therefore it is impossible to price any individual's treatment the same as another. When sold by the area the client may be under treated or may overpay for BOTOX® not used during their treatment.

  A millimeter makes a difference!

If injected incorrectly a treatment may be rendered ineffective or, in rare cases, temporarily disfiguring (minimum 6-12 weeks). Ask how long the injector has been performing BOTOX® injections and what their training is. Do not be shy to ask for certificates of qualifications, after all this is your face!

Ask the clinic what their dilution ratio is

BOTOX® comes in a dry form which must be reconstituted with saline. The correct dilution ratio is 1 - 1, as set out by the pharmaceutical manufacturer. If BOTOX® is over diluted the client may be paying for more saline (basically water) than BOTOX®.

If an injector under injects the treatment area or over dilutes your BOTOX®

the treatment will become ineffective and will fail in approximately 6 weeks. When a BOTOX® treatment is done correctly the treatment will take effect in approximately 5 to 10 days and will last for a minimum of 3 months up to 6 months or more (depending on the individual client).

Do not allow a clinic to perform a BOTOX® treatment in the same area more than once in a 3 month period

Even if you were under dosed or were injected with diluted BOTOX® you must wait 3 months to have the treatment redone as your body may otherwise develop immunity to the treatment rendering any future BOTOX® treatments ineffective.

Ask the clinic if a two week follow up appointment is required.

Top injectors will insist on seeing you two weeks following a treatment even if you say everything is perfect. This will allow the injector to chart your results, do photos and to do a touch up of a few units, if required, to perfect the treatment (but never a reinjection of the full area).

Ask if the clinic has a medical grade camera system to document treatments (a point and shoot does not offer the consistency of lighting and resolution)

Make sure the clinic takes photos before, immediately after and at your two week follow up appointment so that they have full documentation of your treatment progress.

Be aware that every clinic is required to perform and chart a full health history and medical evaluation before every BOTOX® treatment.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgically administered injectable treatment that temporarily smoothes moderate to severe lines and wrinkles in areas such as between the brows, crow’s feet, forehead and neck in people from 18 to 65 years of age. This remarkable procedure is a safe, simple, fast and effective way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions.

One 10-minute treatment - a few tiny injections - and within days there's a dramatic improvement in those persistent lines on your face or neck. Results may vary.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which safely reduces the activity of the muscles that cause these signs of aging to form over time.

The results are so gratifying that BOTOX® Cosmetic has become one of the most popular cosmetic medical procedures performed to date; in fact over one million people have been treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic since obtaining FDA approval in 2002. It is no longer just models and movie stars receiving these treatments, but people from all types of professions and age groups!

Of course, we know that seeing is believing, so take a look at men and women who have had BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments, and see for yourself!

Questions we will ask before knowing if BOTOX® is right for you:

taking any over-the-counter medicines or herbal products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Botox Injection FAQ - What can I expect during my Botox® Appointment?  What can I expect during my Botox® Appointment?

Our physician or one of his highly trained Registered Nurses will first determine where to administer the injections and how much BOTOX® Cosmetic to use by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your face or neck. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create lines or wrinkles vary among individuals.

The product will then be administer through several tiny injections directly into the targeted muscles that cause those moderate to severe lines in the area of concern. Discomfort, if any, is minimal and brief.

You can expect to be in and out of Premier Medical Spa without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines within 7-10 days. Improvement may continue for up to two weeks, and can last up to 6 months, or longer with repeated treatments over time.

Botox Injection FAQ - What's the difference between BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, or Juvederm?  What's the difference between BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, or Juvederm?

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets and relaxes your facial muscles preventing them from creating the facial expressions that cause fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal Fillers smooth and fill in existing wrinkles that are there at rest and restores volume that has been lost through the natural aging process. Think of BOTOX® as both a corrective and preventive measure against future facial lines and Dermal Filler as a way to deal with lines already there.

Botox Injection FAQ - Will it hurt?  Will it hurt?

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers are injected into your skin in tiny amounts with ultrafine needles. There may be minimal discomfort and swelling, but the procedures are safe and normally tolerated well.

Botox Injection FAQ - I don't want to look like I've had plastic surgery. I just want to get rid of my wrinkles. Are BOTOX® and Filler still right for me?  I don’t want to look like I've had plastic surgery. I just want to get rid of my wrinkles. Are BOTOX® and Filler still right for me?

Of course! Both treatments can freshen up your face without making you look unnatural. Facial expressions and sensations will remain unaffected. You will emerge with smoother, younger-looking skin. Plastic surgery and face lifts involve pulling skin tightly over bone, leaving an unnatural look, whereas fillers restore contours in your face such as cheek bones and jawlines that have been lost with age, a natural, youthful look will be the end result.

Botox Injection FAQ - It's hard for me to make time for appointments. Can I get treatments during my lunch hour or between errands?  It's hard for me to make time for appointments. Can I get treatments during my lunch hour or between errands?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are simple procedures that take very little time out of your day and because any visible side effects are minimal, you can return to work or normal activities immediately. Dermal Fillers can take a little more time. Although downtime is often minimal and you can return to your normal daily routine afterwards, you will want to allow for about an hour for these injections.

Botox Injection FAQ - How soon will treatments work, and for how long?  How soon will treatments work, and for how long?

Individual results may vary, but most patients usually notice improvements from BOTOX® within several days and immediately with Dermal Fillers. BOTOX® lasts for about four months. Dermal fillers can last anywhere from six to twelve months. When restoring volume in areas such as the cheeks it is possible for the product to last two to three years as Premier Medical Spa uses a very advanced injection technique for these types of enhancements.

Botox Injection FAQ - Will one treatment be enough?  Will one treatment be enough?

BOTOX® requires an average of three to four treatments within the first year for your face to show long-lasting improvements. After about six months, your body will absorb both products, and wrinkles and lines may return. Regular touch-ups are needed and recommended to maintain the desired results.

Botox Injection FAQ - Who should not use BOTOX® Cosmetic?  Who should not use BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) or in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, Myasthemia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Botox Injection FAQ - Will I experience any side effects?  Will I experience any side effects?

Although rare, a patient may experience localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or temporary bleeding/bruising.

Botox Injection FAQ - Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?  Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you have "had work done." The muscle activity that causes the expression lines are simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Botox Injection FAQ - What will happen to the frown lines between my brows if I choose not to continue treatments?  What will happen to the frown lines between my brows if I choose not to continue treatments?

If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually with time look like they did prior to your initial treatment.

Botox Injection FAQ - Is BOTOX® Cosmetic affordable?  Is BOTOX® Cosmetic affordable?

When considering your facial aesthetic options, BOTOX® Cosmetic is quite affordable. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair colouring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations. All of our consultations are complimentary so if you have a budget, our professional, highly trained consultants at Premier Medical Spa will be able to advise you on how you can achieve the best results without breaking your budget.

Botox Injection FAQ - Do treatment results differ?  Do treatment results differ?

The amount of product needed to achieve the desired results will differ from patient to patient as everyone has a varying amount of correction. The staff at Premier Medical Spa will discuss your personal results expectations with you prior to you being injected to ensure your complete satisfaction. To get the best results, it is important to go to a doctor who is experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic, as well as a doctor having detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and experience injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic.
